Cats are strictly carnivores, meat eaters, and only need a small amount, if any, vegetables or rice. Their diets contain organ meats, bones, and muscle meats. Cats will not need anything but their natural diet, and will not need as much as a dog, since a dogs is a omnivore and can eat almost anything.
There are foods that can be poisonous to a dog such as onions, green tomatoes, raw potatoes, chocolate and caffeine, grapes and raisins, and milk. Cats and dogs both share foods they cannot have, and its not necessary to give a cat table scraps.
Cats are mostly independent, especially outside cats. Outside cats will not need a litter box and all they need is a little cat food and water everyday. If they are still hungry after the cat food they can hunt small animals, and insects since they are natural hunters. Although some times they hunt for sport and do not always eat what they hunt.
Can I Give My Cat Rice? Occasionally.
A cat can be given rice every once in awhile. Rice can actually help with stomach problems like diarrhea. The rice should be mixed with some type of meat like chicken. Only do this in moderation since cats do not need any grains in their diets.
If you are worried about your cat or if they do not get better talk to your vet about giving your cat Pedialyte or something that will make him feel better. It may also be best to ask your vet about giving your pet rice when they are not feeling well.
Too Much Grains and Rice
In moderation rice should be okay. But, when it is over done it can be harmful to a cat. A diet with to much grains can cause a cat (as well as other pets) to promote the production of insulin and inflammatory chemicals. The body will not adjust accordingly like one may think instead the underproduction of insulin will make it hard for the cats body to keep the correct weight which could lead to diabetes and other health problems.
Grain and Rice Diet To a Meat Diet
If your cat has been diagnosed with diabetes you may have been told your cat needs a better protein based diet. However you cannot just give your cat a new diet, it needs to be done slowly and properly. The health of the cat will depend on it. When you are talking to your vet be sure to ask many questions and see if they can help come up with a plan to get your cat back to normal and as healthy as possible.
Cats do not know how to create a meal for themselves that is why it is so important to know what they need. As a cat owner that is your responsibility.
Grains In Cat Foods
When purchasing cat food be sure it does not contain any grains, including rice. Rice and other grins are in cat foods so the manufacturer can make more profit. Grains are a lot cheaper than meats. Most manufacturers believe it is not their responsibility to feed you cat properly, and if you ant them fed properly you do it. Not saying this is the right way for them to think but, if you make your own foods at least you know what is being fed to your precious animal friend. Cats need a food that is mostly meats and a little bit of vegetables.
Cats and Rice
Cats can be given rice in a very small amount if it is mixed with meat like chicken. Giving to much rice and other grains could cause a cat to get diabetes or become over weight. A cat has a specific diet they should be given. If you are unsure then talk to a vet. Information online can be based on opinions rather than experts facts. A pet owner should also be aware what is given in a cats dehydrated foods as well as canned wet foods.
A vet will always help come up with a plan for a cat or almost any other pet. All you have do is set up an appointment and a checkup for your cat. As a pet owner you should also ask how often he should visit the vet. Animals are indeed like kids in many ways.
